RE: RV.net gathering in RVG??

We'd be back. Know it was a lot of work and you did a good job. Would it be possible to meet somewhere else and have everyone bring a snack and their own drinks? First year in the valley last year and don't know if there's a place you could do that. Save you some work. The reason we have used the Cactus Club at Victoria Palms in Donna is because it is a central location in the Valley, large enough to handle this size group, indoors which means we don't have to worry about the weather, handicap accessible. We can bring snacks that is no problem. In the past we have just done the hot dog thing and popcorn so no one had to deal with bringing something. This is prepared by the volunteers at Victoria Palms the tips go back to the Cactus Club and are used to maintain and buy new equipment for the Cactus Club. We can bring any beverage the Cactus Club doesn't serve. They serve beer, wine, coolers, soda/pop, set ups. Basically you can bring hard liquor and any food that you would like. Shirley

RE: RV.net gathering in RVG??

Can you come even if you aren't a snowbird? We're just across the border and visit the RGV and SPI now and then. Absolutely! We would love to meet you. This is open to anyone on the RV.Net Forum. Shirley

RE: Activities, Attractions, Dining, Rio Grande Valley TX 08-09

This coming Wednesday December 3rd we are going to see "12 String Tim and Sharon". If you haven't seen them they are a blast. They will be playing at..... Charlie's in Elsa. Charlie's has Winter Texan Wednesday's. They will be playing from 4 pm - 8 pm and they have a full bar and food. It's easy to find - take Westgate Drive from Exp 83 north 8 miles to Highway 107, turn right and it's on your right, just up a block. We haven't been to Charlie's but we have heard a lot about it. If you are looking for something to do come on out. Wear your name tags or if you have them wear an RV.Net shirt. Shirley

RE: Pepe's in the RGV

Pepe's was a great time and a big crowd. We did not get there until 2:30 so we had to sit in the back but had a huge table that accommodated everyone so that was good. I was wrong about the time the band starts. The second Band starts at 3PM and not sure when the first band starts. Judy had a great time. :W Shirley

RE: Pepe's in the RGV

Big crowd at Pepe's two weeks ago, not so big last Sunday. Now that Thanksgiving is over and the sun is out they should have a big crowd again today. Hey TomG2 if I remember correctly you were looking for singles dances? Forgive me if I am wrong. :h We will have a single lady with us today. She will be leaving tomorrow to go back to Ohio. Judy will have a light tan shirt on with very pale blue capris. shorter blond hair. (she doesn't know I am posting this so please keep that part quiet :W) We will be towards the front (hopefully) with a large crowd (I think about 15 people). Shirley

RE: Pepe's in the RGV

This really needs to move to the Snowbird Forum as that is where you will get answers. I would also like to see the answers as we haven't been there this Season yet. Shirley

RE: Our TT has been stolen!

I tell this story just to let you know people do sometimes get their property back. One of my Dad's friends bought a new suburban in south Texas. A few weeks later, while he was inside a store shopping, thieves whisked it away and it was gone when he returned with his purchases. Fast forward a couple months. He was across the border shopping in the little border town and ran across his SUV parked in a parking place. His license plate was still on it. He still had the keys for it on his keyring which was in his pocket. He climbed aboard and drove it back home. Sweet. Dale Great story. Happy ending! Shirley

RE: Happy Thanksgiving from your mod.

Happy Thanksgiving Ron and Sue and all of our RV.Net Friends. What a wonderful day it has been in the RGV. We had the traditional Thanksgiving Dinner with 17 Friends. After dinner we watched "Christmas Vacation" and "Meet The Fockers" on the outside TV. Welcome back to the RGV MoRambler and Jojolou! Ron & Shirley

RE: Activities, Attractions, Dining, Rio Grande Valley TX 08-09

Today 9 of us went to South Padre Island. A couple of fun things to do on the Island .... Behind the Convention Center are some great Nature Walks. These walks are all on elevated walk ways. They would be wheelchair accessible. You will see tons of fish and birds. We also went on a Dolphin Watch Eco boat tour. This one is adjacent to Dirty Al's directly to the north of Dirty Al's Restaurant on the south side of the Island. It is normally around $24.00. It is a two hour tour and you see many Dolphins. They also throw out a net and drag the bottom. Then they bring in the "catch" and explain what everything is. They even let you handle some of the sea creatures. This was by far the best Charter Boat ride/Dolphin Tour we have ever been on. We have gone on the cheaper Dolphin watches and they do not come close to this one. We went on the 1:30 Boat Cruise. If you have a large group and they are not real busy they may even give you a better price. We then enjoyed a wonderful dinner at Dirty Al's. Shirley

It is a direct route but it rattles you to death although better than it used to be. Not a very good answer. Shirley

RE: RGV apartment size refrigerator wanted

Any luck yet Ron&Shirley? We checked up and down 23rd Street in McAllen. Went in every place that sold new and used. They want way too much money for them. We are looking for an 8 to 10 cu ft refrigerator. They say they are very expensive because those are the sizes they want to take to Mexico. I got the 20 pound turkey and was able to put it into my refrigerator by taking out a shelf. Shirley

RE: Activities, Attractions, Dining, Rio Grande Valley TX 08-09

We had a great dinner of seafood chowder (can you say crab & crawfish) with Dale's parents tonight. Great every time Dale makes it. It's a recipe passed on from my cousin's wife Jo, out of Zachary LA. So far it has sat well on top of the G-burger!!!! Terry we were hoping we could talk Dale into making a very large pot of that Seafood Chowder.Since we couldn't talk her into cooking for an additional 18 guests maybe we could talk her into sharing that recipe? Good to see the two of you today. Shirley

Gonzales Burgers were great as usual. The owners really appreciate us coming in and they all thanked us as we left. We had 20 RV.Net Forum Members have lunch together. Jojolou as a matter of fact some of us did have a Margarita or two after lunch just for you. Not everyone could come over for the Margaritas some were headed to the Don/Wes flea market. Alicia and Roger were moving parks today with the help of the "dingalings". Hoops good to hear you will be coming down shortly. DonP will probably give a better report when they get home. Several of us had ice cream for dinner with our buy one get one free coupons at DQ. Shirley

RE: RGV apartment size refrigerator wanted

Hi Larry, We have the one for the basement but we now need a larger one. One that can holder a "turkey", etc. More like something you would see in an apartment. Have a safe trip down and don't bring any of that cold weather with you. Shirley
